Reading and Comprehending Historical Documents for Better Understanding
Playlist Title
In the activities in this playlist, you have the opportunity to delve into America’s rich history by looking at its founding documents and most important speeches. As you begin looking at all of these, try focusing on the main idea presented in each of them. Why do the authors write the way that they do? What images or symbols do they rely on? What events are most important? Remember, though the authors will be expressing strong opinions and possibly attempt to sway what you think about a specific topic, your job here is to be as objective as possible. When you review these articles and documents, pretend you are a news reporter. When you are looking at American Charter Documents, keep in mind that there are different sections that lead to the actual documents; pay close attention to the readings, as you will have to answer questions based on which documents you select. Good luck!
