2020 Innovative Learning Award Honorees

Visionaries of the Year

Daniel Dolgin
Co-Founder & Former Board Chairman of PowerMyLearning

Dan received a B. A. degree from Columbia College and a J. D. from Columbia Law School. Before leaving law practice to pursue investment opportunities, Dan served as a corporate lawyer at McDermott, Will & Emery, where he was a partner and head of the New York office. Before his tenure at McDermott, Will & Emery, Dan spent eight years at Towne, Dolgin, Sawyier & Horton, a commercial law firm of which he was a co-founder. In 1999, Dan teamed up with Elisabeth Stock, who he assisted as PowerMyLearning evolved into the national, educational-equity service enterprise it is today. Shortly before Dan met Elisabeth, he had filed the certificate of incorporation for the company and secured its status as a not-for-profit, tax-exempt enterprise. He served as its initial board chairman until 2008, retiring from his role as a member of the board in June 2020.

Loraine Gardner
President of Beyond the Horizon Travel Corp

Loraine is a graduate of Oberlin College and The University of Chicago Law School. She practiced corporate law, first with Dewey Ballentine and then with Rivkin Sherman and Levy. For several years following she was an at-home mother to sons Ben and Sam. In 1993 Loraine launched travel agency Beyond the Horizon Travel Corp. Beyond the Horizon Travel is an independent affiliate of Travel Experts Inc., a member of the Virtuoso consortium of luxury focused travel agencies. Since the 1990’s, Loraine has supported Dan’s mission to lessen the digital divide, including the founding of Computers for Youth, the original name of PowerMyLearning.
